Ho Ho Ho! Santa here, with a festive tale to share about the Derbyshire Centre of the Caravan Club’s Christmas Party Rally, held from the 6th to the 8th of December 2024 at the Ukrainian Centre near Weston-on-Trent. What a jolly weekend it was!
Now, let me tell you, getting there was no easy feat. Storm Darrah was in full swing, whipping up 100 mph winds. But my trusty sleigh, built to perfection by the one and only Kim Bond, held strong through it all. A big shoutout to Kim—your craftsmanship is second to none!
The committee had spent weeks in the planning stages and deserve a huge round of applause for organising such a magical event along with marshals, Lesley, Dave, Sally, and Stephen. The rally was attended by 25 units, and 29 children (including day visitors) joined in for the festive fun at the children’s Christmas party.
Friday night kicked things off with Christmas Jumper Night. Oh, the merry sight of everyone in their festive sweaters! Ralliers tucked into mince pies, sipped on hot chocolate and mulled wine, and enjoyed some lively entertainment. Bingo and “Play Your Cards Right” had everyone laughing and cheering the night away.
Saturday morning saw an abundance of Christmas trees ready to be decorated. The children got creative, adorning the trees with a mix of shiny baubles and handmade decorations they crafted themselves. Meanwhile, the grown-ups watched on, enjoying hot drinks and bacon butties. There’s nothing like the smell of bacon to get you in the festive spirit, Ho Ho Ho!
The afternoon was all about the children. The tombola was a hit, and the kids gathered for a traditional feast of party food. There were giggles and smiles all around during games like Pass the Parcel and Musical Chairs, lovingly organized by the grown-ups. Pete Long kept the energy high with music for the kids’ disco!
And then came the moment I’d been waiting for—my big entrance! The committee outdid themselves, creating an amazing grotto for me. The children walked through a magical tunnel of candy canes to meet me. Those on my good list (which, of course, was everyone—they’ve all been so good this year!) received presents. Their smiles were the best gift I could have asked for.
As the evening rolled in, the grown-ups took over the festivities. Ralliers sat at beautifully decorated tables they’d adorned themselves. A hearty Pie and Pea supper was served warming everyone’s bellies and hearts.
The atmosphere was filled with laughter as party games and dancing took centre stage. Disc Jockey John Hall kept everyone on their feet with a fantastic selection of tunes and games.
It was truly a weekend to remember. A huge thank you to everyone who made it possible —the marshals, the committee, and all the ralliers who brought the Christmas cheer. Until next time, Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
