Chairman's Update - May 2024

Monthly Overview

The opening of this report has started to become more like a weather forecast due to the exceptional rainfall we have seen across the UK for the past several months, which has affected many rallies for a number of centres however there was sunshine spotted at several rallies over the month of May! I feel we have been more fortunate than other centres as only a couple of our rallies have had to of been cancelled this year. This is a mixture of locations with good drainage and the number of rallies at the start of the programme being on hard standing.

May has seen a busy month of rallies including our Holiday Rally to Bridlington and ClubFest along with rallies every weekend.

Rallies

Ashover Showground Mayday Bank Holiday Rally was run 3rd – 7th May

A well supported mayday bank holiday was spent at Ashover which was the weekend of the villages Spring Celebrations, we welcomed 38 arrivals including 5 first time ralliers and visitors from several centres. The ground had absorbed the recent wet weather well and we seen the odd bit of sunshine for rallies to enjoy the local cricket, walks and seen many sitting outside socialising and even the BBQ’s made an appearance.

Four Acres, Bamford Rally was held 10th – 12th May

Another full rally for the centre in a new location at Four Acres. The rally welcomed 21 arrivals and the weather was kind, providing warmth and sunshine. Ralliers enjoyed the local attractions Bamford and Castleton have to offer and many taking advantage of the kind weather to socialise with friends old and new outside their units.

National Coal Mining Museum was held 17th – 19th May

A unique location seen this rally full with 15 arrivals all Derbyshire Members which included two first time ralliers.

Many of the rallies took advantage to go down the mine for a 90-minuet tour and experience.

There was an unplanned social outside the marshals units on the Saturday which started as a little gathering but most of the ralliers joined under the stars.

ClubFest 2024 was held 24th – 28th May

The CAMC annual ClubFest was held this year at Weston Park which seen an immense lineup of live performances from some top named singers and bands including Toploader, Scouting for Girls and Jason Donavan. There were several Derbyshire Members in attendance including some on the working parties helping to make these yearly events go ahead.

Bridlington Holiday Rally was held 24th – 29th May

Our holiday rally to Bridlington was again another full rally which seen multiple centres joining our 43 arrivals for the bank holiday weekend with the option to extend until the Wednesday. There was an easy 2 mile walk into the centre of Brid or the option to use the park and ride or even the small promenade train. This weekend seen the use of our new inflatable event shelters where two socials were held over the weekend. The feedback of the location was very positive with many members commenting they would love to return in the future.

To Finish…

We have seen again great numbers on our rallies throughout May with the majority being full with waiting lists and several first time ralliers which we have seen further bookings come from a lot of them, which all adds to the good news story.

The Chairman’s Rally for 2025 has been confirmed for the Ukrainian Centre at Weston on Trent for the last bank holiday in May 2025.

We will update more on the schedule, entertainment and events as they are confirmed. Our Open Forum will be held at Osmaston Polo Ground on Saturday 22nd June, the rally is full but all registered members are welcome to join us at 10am.

Our next committee meeting is to be held Tuesday 18th June 2024.

Regards,

Scott Wanless Chairman,
