Chairman's Update - June 2024

Monthly Overview

We will start with the now “usual” weather report for the month of June! Although British summertime is upon us and we have seen a temperature increase and more sunny periods, I still find myself hanging the awning on the washing line days after some rallies.

We have managed to hold our Open Forum Rally this month at our Osmaston Polo Ground Rally, which was in good attendance and with non-ralliers attending. The overall feedback was very positive regarding how the centre is currently performing and delivering. There were a few points that were made and will be discussed at July’s committee meeting.

Rallies

Parsons Croft, Parwich Rally was held 7th – 9 th June

We welcomed 13 arrivals, all Derbyshire Members and 2 first time ralliers. Ant and Michelle Turner marshalled their first ever rally and organised a evening social with a no wrong answer quiz, music and cheese! Still can’t get over John Strutt being voted “Most Handsome Man”……

Newstead Abbey Rally was held 14th – 16th June

11 arrivals and 2 non-attenders enjoyed the weekend at Nottingham’s Newstead Abbey. A relaxed weekend to enjoy the grounds, eat in the café and enjoy an ice-cream. The marshals provided a “feely” quiz on the Saturday just before the heavens opened, again!

Osmaston Polo Ground Rally was held 21st -23rd June

A lovely turn out of 33 units and 1 non attender with visitors from other centres local and far. Our annual Lawn Darts and Pétanque Competition were held on the Saturday in a glorious and sunny Osmaston following on from our Open Forum. The winners of the Pétanque was Ant & Michelle Turner and Mark and Lyndsay Tomlinson from Leicestershire Centre took the winners spot for Lawn Darts.

Four Lane Ends Rally was held 28th – 30th June

18 arrivals and 2 non-attenders joined the centre at Darley Dale. Always lovely to return to this flat field offering great views of the dales and the odd steam train passing through. Craig and Dawn Rolt marshalled their first ever rally here this year and treated us to a Cream Tea on arrival and a fun packed social on the Saturday evening under the stars.

To Finish… It’s a pleasure to see the rallies being well attended again throughout this month and more places being filled for the forthcoming rallies. Following on from our Open Forum, I have been focusing on the succession for the centre and encouraging members to come forward and join the committee.

The aim would be to try and get us into a position to secure our future by having the “Vice” roles to the senior positions of the centre being filled to bring continuity for future.

We would welcome those who want to support our centre in a committee role by applying for roles in the coming months when nominations open.

Our next committee meeting is to be held Tuesday 16 th July 2024.

Regards,

Scott Wanless Chairman, Derbyshire Centre CAMC
